WA1
A beautiful circuit hike in the uppermost part of the superb Loetschental

With the postal car we drive all up this in many ways special valley to reach the alpine pastures of Fafleralp. The gentle ascending trail follows the milky Lonza almost to the snout of the Langgletscher, passing a picturesque lake with clear greenish water. The higher we hike, the less advanced is the state of regrowth and can we admire the pioneer vegetation as well as study the influence of early glaciation and todays climate. Then a steeper part on the moraine to the left with views on the glacier follows until we reach the new Swiss Alpine Hut, the Anenhütte. The old hut has been swiped off by an avalanche. After a panoramic lunch (in the hut or in the rocky surroundings) we start the downhill part on at first a rather steep then more or less gradual hiking trail through lovely open Alpine slopes scattered with rhododendron bushes and passing another lovely tiny lake (we wait for all who want to have a swim…) We will look out for marmots and chamois. Still enjoying the beautiful panorama we descent to the little settlement of Guggistafel and, slower than the pretty purling brook aside the trail, we finish our beautiful circuit hike at Fafleralp. Depending the time and interest we may stop at one of the pretty villages of this valley, where tradition is still vivid.
