On a panoramic trail and over sunny meadows into the main valley of Glarus

With the local bus we arrive in the village of Filzbach, where after a short warm up walk the chair lift is ready to spare us a long uphill hike. Because of the toboggan run the place of Habergschwänd is quite busy, but as soon as we start our less known hike we leave the main crowd behind and we can enjoy the great view down to the plain of the river Linth, to the Lake of Zürich and the Mountains with the Säntis in the Northeast. In a pleasant up and down (also called Swiss flat;-) and for a short moment steeper we cross meadows and a forest on a mountain track until we reach the cirque and the terrace of Mullerenberg. We however avoid the by car accessible settlement and opt for a lovely, wild and more alpine part on the foot of the bluff Fronalpstock. Then starts our long, but varied downhill hike over several alps and hamlets with view now to the impressing Glärnisch mountain and to the end through the woods until we reach the bottom of the valley and finally the town of Glarus. Even when the feet are tired, this small main town of a vivid and despite its position in many ways progressive canton is worth our visit.

Walking time: 4h Ascent: 116m, Descent: 917m, ▲▲-▲▲▲

This not well known lovely hike is a moderate one, but due to the some times rocky trail hiking boots or half boots with a good grip are needed. Because of the long downhill knees are stressed. At the end of the day hike the guided visit of Glarus is also a great opportunity to learn about the history and culture of this only industrial mountain canton of Switzerland. CULTURA MONTIS owner Pascalina has worked here for several years and showing you around, will give you some insighter’s information.
