A beautiful and truly varied excursion to lovely Thun and up on its famous neighbour, the Niesen
Der Niesen von Paul Klee
  "Der Niesen" von Paul Klee

This varied and beautiful excursion really covers the interest of all: There is the passionate story about the representation of the triangular-shaped Niesen in Art (Hodler and Klee just to name two). The town of Thun and the new restaurant on top of the mountain offer contrasting styles of building to discuss, and the earlier mining of slate in the ridge of the mountain is an interesting historic fact to learn more about. Among other alpine flowers to discover, there is the flower, who gave the name to the mountain. And of course all the taken rides by train, boat and funicular are not just fun for kids and fans of technique.

We start the day with a leisurely walk through Thun, and then take a lovely boat ride to Spiez and a local train to Mülenen. The panorama from Thun to the chain with the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau is already lovely, but the one from the summit is just breathtaking. Early tourists of the 19th made the long ascent to enjoy the view by foot (and some still do), we have the comfort of a funicular and take advantage to reach this view point, which is unintelligible less know than the famous Schilthorn. The lovely hike we start after Lunch, is a quite easy one, but goes all downhill on an earthy mountain trail. It leads us to the middle station, where we take the funicular down and the train back.
